The Mother of FANBOYS – Learning Conjunctions

Characters:

  • Ms. Conjunction (A wise and caring mother)
  • FANBOYS (Her seven children: For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, So)
  • Student (A curious learner)

Setting: Ms. Conjunction’s cozy home, where she teaches her seven children how to connect ideas.

Script

(Scene opens with Ms. Conjunction sitting in a cozy chair, knitting. The seven children—F, A, N, B, O, Y, and S—sit around her, eager to learn.)

Ms. Conjunction:
“Come close, my dear FANBOYS. Today, I will remind you of your important job in the English language. You are my wonderful conjunctions, and your task is to connect words, phrases, and ideas. Let’s introduce ourselves!”

FOR:
“I am For! I explain reasons. Like—’She stayed inside, for it was raining.’ I connect ideas by showing the cause!”

AND:
“I am And! I add things together. ‘I like apples and oranges.’ I make sure ideas are connected smoothly!”

NOR:
“I am Nor! I join negative ideas. ‘She doesn’t like coffee, nor does she drink tea.’ I make sure neither choice is accepted!”

BUT:
“I am But! I show contrast. ‘She wanted to play, but it was too late.’ I help when things don’t go the same way!”

OR:
“I am Or! I give choices. ‘Do you want tea or coffee?’ I make sure people have options!”

YET:
“I am Yet! I also show contrast, but in a surprising way! ‘It was cold, yet he didn’t wear a coat.’ I make things interesting!”

SO:
“And finally, I am So! I show results. ‘She studied hard, so she passed the test.’ I help things make sense!”

(The Student enters, looking confused.)

Student:
“Wow! That’s a lot to remember. How can I make sure I don’t forget you all?”

Ms. Conjunction (smiling):
“Just remember—FANBOYS! F for For, A for And, N for Nor, B for But, O for Or, Y for Yet, and S for So. Whenever you need to join two ideas, think of my seven children, and they will help you!”

Student (excitedly):
“I get it now! FANBOYS are the glue that connects ideas in sentences!”

(The FANBOYS cheer and dance as the scene ends, and Ms. Conjunction winks at the audience.)

Ms. Conjunction:
“Remember, my dear learners, conjunctions make your sentences stronger. Use them wisely!”

(Curtains close.)
